Kindness to yourself: The Five Moment Memoir

Posting today here, and also at The Kindness Project.

One of the ongoing themes of The Kindness Project is being kind to oneself. I think many of us strive to be kinder to others, but also recognize that sometimes we are less than generous with ourselves.

In the ongoing battle to be kind to yourself I humbly present: The Five Moment Memoir.

I ran across this idea in the February issue of the Oprah magazine. The author didn't approach it from a kindness angle, but immediately it struck me as a personal kindness.

Who among us has kept a journal at some point in their lives?

Who finds it difficult to keep up with?

In my case, I kept a journal for many years but now find that it has been months even years since I've been able to write daily or weekly.

I think of it as a kindness to myself, because I find journaling not only leaves an incomparable view into a given time in my life, but it also really helps me think through problems, make peace with issues, and examine conflicts around me. Not to mention it is the only history from your unique perspective that will ever exist.

Enter the Five Moment Memoir. All the concept requires is that you:

1. Write down five moments from your day.

You're done. It's that easy.

It could be something happy.
It might be a kindness given or received.
It could be a difficult or trying situation.
There are no rules about WHAT you choose to write down. Only that you do it daily and that you focus on five moments.

I have been trying it and enjoy it a lot.

Do you keep a journal?

Have you tried the Five Moment Memoir?

The Kindness Project: Infographic

I've been playing around with the amazing website infogr.am

One of my class assignments this semester was that the students create an infographic on an issue in American food policy. They did such incredible work. (I hope to post some of them as well).

Several of them used infogr.am to complete the assignment. It is a tool that allows you to create a unique infographic.

Check it out, it is super fun (though time consuming).

For my first infographic I wanted to create something on kindness-- so here it is. I'm also posting this Monday on The Kindness Project.

Let me know what you think!

Have you ever created an infographic?

 Have you used infogr.am?

Any advice or tips you can offer?

The Kindness Project: See the Love

I am posting here today and concurrently at The Kindness Project site.

I am going to keep this short and sweet.

We found this little gem by my five-year-old and I have to say it made my day.

He made this when we were in the midst of an eleven day stretch of snow-bound home days caused by the February blizzard.

I'm surprised he didn't write "I can see frustrated grownups everywhere".

It is hard to see sometimes, and with months of winter bringing on the SAD I have found it very hard to see the love these last few weeks.

But it's there.

We simply have to look for it.

Where have you seen love lately?
